Research: Teaser Trailer Analysis 3- Bad Neighbours




Brief plot and Background-
Neighbors (released as Bad Neighbours in some markets) is a 2014 American comedy film, directed by Nicholas Stoller and written by Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. The film stars Seth Rogen and Zac Efron, with Rose Byrne, Dave Franco, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. The film was released in the United States on May 9, 2014 to positive reviews and grossed over $268 million against a budget of $18 million. The Plot is about Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne) are a young couple with a newborn daughter. The restrictions of parenthood make it difficult for them to maintain their old lifestyle, which alienates them from their friends Jimmy Faldt (Ike Barinholtz) and his ex-wife, Paula (Carla Gallo). One day, the couple finds out that Delta Psi Beta, a fraternity known for their outrageous parties, has moved into an adjacent house. The fraternity's leaders, Teddy Sanders (Zac Efron) and Pete Regazolli (Dave Franco), aspire to join Delta Psi's Hall of Fame by throwing a massive end-of-the-year party.

Important elements of representation-
The voiceover begins over the top of the indent, instantly introducing the audience to the type of genre and characters in the film. A medium shot of a baby is shown with mise en scent of the baby being a subvert of the stereotypical baby, this links the audience with the genre of Comedy as it isn't realistic. The shot then begins screen shooting the baby like a photo shoot the white flash edit shows a camera like present. The shot is followed by a long shot with depth of field showing the location of the baby and shows the relationship of the adults to the baby implying they are the parents. The audience get a glimpse of the character's house and mise en scent, the props are stereotypically shown in a family home, with the cot and the baby toys around the round instantly tells the audience the representation of theses characters. Quick cuts are shown of the narrative with the non diegetic sound increasing in speed as the cuts are quicker. The title is show after the couple implying a relationship between the title and the characters showing they are an importance. The grey background with the red font make the title standout and stereotypically link audiences with the conventions of a army font suggesting their will be conflict in the film. A medium shot of what looks like the mother as she shows a relationship with the baby. The audience can stereotypically link the character with the conventions and traits of a women due to the stereotype being caring and mothering. The close up of the characters laying down playing with the baby allows the audience to convert their role of adults to children because of the fact they are subverting the traits of a parent with being irresponsible.  

The title shown after the medium close up of the baby in the pram shows the relationship with the baby and the parents. The bold title standouts and shows an importance with the baby throughout the film. A track shot of the moving van is shown, showing the connection to the characters voiceover of "the neighbours!" and the moving van implying to the audience the characters are having more neighbours. The focus pull shot shows the girl's reaction to the neighbours, connecting with the audience about their emotions and reaction at the time, getting the audience more involved. The title followed after this focus pull shot shows the connection with the title and the shot implying they are an importance in the film. Shot reverse shot is used to show the connection to the event and the characters narrative, making the audience aware of what's happening. shot reverse shot is also used to show the conversation between characters. An establishing shot of the location is shown to show the audience connection to the location and narrative, showing the relationship between the characters.The title shows the audience the connection to the narrative with the characters, showing the audience the comparison between the different neighbours. After the title the audience assume the trailer is over when the audience are surprised when more shots are shown of a narrative which shows a character representation and matches the conventions of the genre; comedy.  

The worms eye and the birds eye shot of the fireworks and the bright lights show a link to a stereotypical genre of teenage youth and connects the the audience of teenagers and encourages them to watch the film. The quick medium shot of the adults connects with the audience about the idea of teenagers being rebels against adults and not doing what they are told. This instantly shows the audience the type of representation theses characters follow, connecting with the idea of teenage youth. The idea of a "party" becoming out of control links to the location of America being stereotyped to have parties and teenagers hard to handle. A establishing shot of the location is shown, telling the audience the type of place the party is and tells the audience about the characters through the location of what looks like an American building due to the stereotypical building that looks like a the idea of The White House due to the mise es scene of the pillars and the colour of white linking audiences to the idea of America.

Narrative-
 The non diegetic sound changes to a faster and more louder to show the audience more is happening and to make them want to watch the film and get them "hyped" for the movie. The music links to a comedy genre and teenage youth with the R&B style to it. Linking to teenage audiences and showing the genre more of teenage youth and comedy. The narrative shows a connection to the neighbours due to the title and the idea of a conflict between the two houses, possibly ending in equals or a defeated character. The couple show at the start suggest they are the protagonist due to the incidence stereotypical family and the fact they are shown as the start shows a connection to the audience that they are important. When the antagonist which is the teenage boys suggest they are trouble due the character representation of teenagers being stereotypical "rebels" connecting the audience with the type of personalities they have and connects the audience with the idea that they are the antagonist.
